Fun Stress Bursting Activities to Try

Amazing ideas to help you unwind and de-stress.

Stress can take over our lives. Not matter where it comes but it will be necessary to manage it and eliminate it from life before it starts to become a problem. Stress looks different for different people, but it's usually some version of your brain and body crankily pushing back against all you're trying to manage.

The question is, how to relieve stress, especially if we’re stuck inside? Here are some activities you can try out for yourself, hopefully, they’ll take some of the stress away and help you to regain balance in your life.

1. Do some gentle exercise: Sometimes you just need quick bursts of movement are great if your stress is making you feel jittery or like your heart is beating faster than normal. Walking, stretching are some gentle exercises you can do to help get your endorphins flowing. No matter how small it should be - a burst of activity gets your heart rate up, and even if brief, will activate several neurotransmitters, including dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine that enhance your mood and help cushion some of that anxiety and stress.

2. Laughter: There is a say "Laughter is a great medicine". Because laughter can be such a great stress reliever, it can be helpful to look for ways that you can incorporate more humor into your life. Laughter is also known to reduce levels of stress hormones including cortisol, epinephrine, and dopamine. Tell a joke, make a funny face, or fake laugh until it turns into uncontrollable laughter.

3. Try some stress-busting games: Playing games can be a great form of stress reliever. Whether with a group of adults you enjoy or with children just play. Games are a good way of keeping up in the present movement, with a light-hearted focus, and laughter that comes easily. Plan a game night with friends and let your inner child come out on regular basis.

4. Eat some dark chocolate: Dark chocolate has been found to decrease the stress-related hormone. So stock up some of your favorite chocolates, cookies, cakes, and all your favorite sweets.

5. Dance like nobody is watching you: Play your favorite playlist and letting loose is, of course, good exercise, which is a long-studied stress-reliever. Dancing to music from a happy time and place in your life can trigger positive memories, as well, taking your mind off your stress. Once those endorphins kick in, you’ll be feeling better in no time, when the body feels good the mind does too.

6. Go and stress bake: Baking checks so many stress-reduction boxes. It is a project that requires planning, concentration, and mindfulness, which activates your brain; and if you enjoy it, it’s fun.

7. Paint or draw: This one is my favorite. I personally love to do this. Rediscovering your artistic side with anything from doodling to serious sketching can be a good stress reliever. Whether it’s the creation of art, the outlet, or the peaceful manner, you’ll almost certainly feel less stressed after painting something.

8. Make your collection of new things: Starting a collection of items is just a fun little hobby. It will give you an interest in something other than the stress you’re accumulating, and you’ll feel a great sense of pride. Coins, stamps, keys, spoons are a few suggestions of things. So go ahead and make your collection as large as you can.

9. Go to mini-vacations: Give yourself a break is so important. Vacations are a wonderfully fun and sadly under-used stress relief resource. If you don't have time or funds to go on the trip you deserve, you can still treat yourself to a stress relieving mini-vacation and get similar benefits without spending as much. Or you can use imagination and visualization as a fun way to "be on vacation." Set aside some moments to visualize yourself in a beautiful location, such as relaxing on the beach or hiking through the mountains.

10. Watch movies: There are so many movies out there, just waiting for them to be enjoyed (or not enjoyed). What are you waiting for? Look out for the cinematography, the acting skills, the lighting, the interior. It might just inspire you in your life, too. So just sit on your sofa take your bowl of popcorn and enjoy your favorite movie.

Conclusion: The list is never-ending. So try your favorite once. And don’t forget to cheer up those near and dear to you as you work on yourself too, these simple ways to help someone having a bad day should inspire some ideas.
